Duncan's party [Sep. 4th, 2004|09:07 pm]
'X-Men: Evolution' RPG

Duncan Matthews smiled proudly as he gazed around at the large crowd that had gathered in his stylish, ultramodern home for the last party of the summer. The turnout had been as good as he'd expected - better, in fact - and with no neighbors nearby and his parents in Albany for the long weekend, they could play the music as loud as they wanted and party until dawn, or at least until the pizza and soda ran out, and that promised to be no sooner than midnight. The entire football team was there, and so were the volleyball and soccer teams, several people he knew from around school, and even a few people who'd graduated from Bayville High in June and hadn't left for college yet. Jean was there too, of course - there was no way she'd miss this - and so were her friends from Xavier's. Duncan didn't really like them, but they weren't causing any problems, and as long as that kept up, he could deal with them. They were Jean's friends, her best friends, but it was his house, and if they caused trouble, he had every right to make them leave.

The music Jean helped him pick out was playing loudly, and all around, people were dancing, eating, playing ping pong, and just enjoying their last few hours of freedom. Duncan waved to several of them as he passed through the living area, but the one he was really looking for was Jean. He hoped she wasn't still stressing out about the upcoming school year. Honestly, that girl needed to learn how to relax and have fun.

Jean walked around Duncan's party, watching everyone having a good time. The football team, the volleyball team, the soccer team... even people that Duncan didn't usually talk to were here tonight. It seemed that he had invited pretty much everyone who currently attended (or who used to attend, in a few people's cases) Bayville High.

There were even a few students from the Institute here, but Jean hadn't seen them yet - she was the first person to arrive here, but she'd been so busy helping Duncan out with stuff that she didn't get to see people as they came in.

Speaking of which - Jean had been near Duncan one moment, turned her back for a second, and when she turned back towards him, he was gone. She figured he'd seen one of his good friends and gone to talk, so she decided to walk around a little bit.

It was kind of funny... for someone who everyone thought was such a popular person, people seemed too engaged in their own conversations to notice that Jean was walking around by herself. She frowned slightly at that, but quickly shook it off when she finally spotted Duncan again. She gave a tiny sigh of relief and started towards him.

"Hey, Jean!" Duncan said, waving as Jean came into his line of sight. She was alone, which struck him as slightly odd, but the feeling passed as quickly as it came. "Having a good time?"

Jean smiled softly at him and nodded. "Er.. yeah! It's a great party, Duncan. Everyone seems to be having a really good time. How about you?"

"Havin' a blast," Duncan replied, running his hand through his hair. "I think they're gonna start a ping pong tournament in a few minutes. You want something to drink?"

"Umm..." Jean shifted her weight from one foot to another as she thought for a moment. "...Sure, I guess I'll have a soda or something. Thanks Duncan." She smiled at him in gratitude.

"All right." Duncan smiled at her, then walked over to the cooler and removed two cans of Pepsi, one for himself and one for Jean. However, he didn't go back to Jean right away. Something else caught his attention: raised voices near the pool table. He figured he'd better go investigate.

"I still don't really see why you like the guy," Scott muttered to Jean when Duncan left. "This whole thing is just a publicity stunt, you know. A well-done publicity stunt," he conceded - way to not seem jealous, Scott, "but still."

He shrugged. "I guess it's just not my sort of scene."

Jean watched Duncan for a moment as he walked away to get her a drink. When she heard Scott's voice, she blinked and turned towards him, then immediately grinned, glad to see him. Her smile faded a little bit as his words sunk in.

She sighed a little bit and rubbed her forehead, knowing that there was always some tension going on between Scott and Duncan. "He's not that bad, once you really get to know him," Jean said.

She hated to admit it, but Scott was partially right - Duncan had pretty much invited the whole school (and thensome) to his party, and at least half of the guests that were there were people that he rarely talked to on a regular basis.

She smiled softly at Scott and shrugged. "Besides... he's just trying to have some fun before school starts again. That's not so bad, right?"

{{He shrugged. "I guess it's just not my sort of scene."}}

"Well I'm glad you came anyway," Jean said with another smile. "The more, the merrier. And it's nice to see another friendly face around here."

Kurt was quite the party animal so he could not pass up this party. He needed some fun. After raiding the snacks he went to find someone to dance with. Hopefully the brotherhood wouldn't show up. They didn't need that right now. Kurt sighed and decided to relax. He had been thinking too much lately.
